From Zelda Wiki, the Zelda encyclopedia
The Broken Sword appears in several Zelda games.
Ocarina of Time
Broken Giant's Knife
Also known as the "Broken Giant's Knife", the Broken Sword is the handle and portion of the blade remaining from the Giant's Knife in Ocarina of Time. The remaining handle can still be used as a weapon, but will only inflict ¼ the damage of the original Giant's Knife with a reduced range comparable to that of the Kokiri Sword. If Link returns the Broken Giant's Knife to Medigoron, he will forge a new one for 200 Rupees. Oddly, though most of the blade and therefore weight is absent, Link still requires both hands in order to wield the Broken Giant's Knife.
Broken Goron's Sword
The Broken Goron's Sword is the sixth item in the Adult Trading Sequence of Ocarina of Time. It is identical to the Broken Giant's Knife in every way, except for the fact that it cannot be used as a weapon. Link obtains the Broken Goron's Sword after he returns the Poacher's Saw to the Boss Carpenter in Gerudo Valley. This part of the Trading Sequence can only be completed if Link has acquired Epona or the Longshot. The Broken Goron's Sword can be traded to Biggoron for the Prescription.
Oracle of Ages
In Oracle of Ages, the Broken Sword is the last trading sequence item, and becomes the Noble Sword when Link goes with Patch to repair it at the Restoration Wall. Link receives it from the Old Zora in a cave near Rafton's House in exchange for the Sea Ukulele.
