In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Link's Grandmother is a sweet old woman who lives on Outset Island with her two grandchildren, Link and Aryll, where she happily cooks Elixir Soup for them.
Biography
On Link's birthday, she calls out for her grandson to give him the Hero's Clothes as a commemoration of the day that he turns the same age as the hero spoken of in the legends of old.[1] Unfortunately, Aryll is kidnapped by the Helmaroc King, and Link returns to his house to retrieve the Hero's Shield hanging from the wall in order to sail with Tetra and her crew and thus be able to rescue his sister. His grandmother sadly gives the shield to him, overwhelmed and disheartened by the fact that Aryll has been kidnapped.[2] Just as Link is departing from Outset, his grandmother can be seen standing in front of her house watching her grandson leave.
Later in Link's journey, the young hero returns to fetch Nayru's Pearl from the great water spirit: Jabun. When Link comes to visit his Grandmother, he finds out from Sue-Belle that his grandmother has been depressed ever since he left the island. Sue-Belle goes on to mention that Grandmother rarely leaves the house, spending her days sleeping and hardly eating as she continues to worry for her two grandchildren.[3] She is so burdened by the fear of losing Link and Aryll and ending up all alone that she doesn't even recognize her grandson when Link goes to visit her.[4] After Sturgeon tells Link that fairy dust is all that is necessary to cure her,[5] the young hero promptly uses a fairy on her, causing her to quickly recuperate her health and sprout up from her seat. She expresses her happiness to see Link again, promising to try and stay strong and help in every way she can instead of worrying and moaning too much.[6] To prove this, she happily fills his bottle with her hearty soup which restores all of Link's health and energy, and even doubles attack power until receiving a hit from an enemy. Before Link returns to his adventures, Grandmother kindly advises him to not do anything reckless and to come back safely, where she will make his favorite soup any time he wants.[7]
Throughout Link's quest on the Great Sea, Grandmother continues to be a resolute source of encouragement for her grandson. At one point, she sends Link a letter, asking for his safety and giving him all the Rupees she's saved up, for she says that as long as she has Aryll and him, she doesn't need anything else.[8] Even after Link rescues Aryll and sets sail for new seas, Grandmother always waits patiently on Outset Island with a smile on her face and many helpings of her healing soup.

That's right... You and your sister, Aryll, are trying so hard to be strong, and I've just been sitting here, moaning and worrying... I'm your grandmother... I'm the one who should be taking care of you... I'm so sorry, Link. I haven't even considered what you must be going through. I'm a terrible grandma..." —Grandmother (The Wind Waker)

- ↑ " How are you doing, [player_name]? Do you have enough of Granny's soup? Where are you now? You may be closer than I suspect! Are you hungry? Are you keeping warm? You haven't injured yourself, have you? You always work so hard, [player_name]. Do you have enough Rupees? Your grandma doesn't have a lot, but I'm sending you everything I've saved up. As long as I have you and Aryll, I don't need anything else. I just want the two of you to return home safely." —Grandmother (The Wind Waker)
