The Mega Thwomp is a giant stone block trap that first appeared in one underground passageway in Link's Awakening. It does not directly attack Link, but it bars his way to the end of the dungeon.
Mega Thwomps, like regular Thwomps and Spiked Thwomps are based on the Thwomp enemies from the Mario series and were originally from Super Mario Bros. 3. This particular enemy is however known as ドシン (Doshin) in Japan, meaning "Thump", although ironically it also bears the closest resemblance to the Thwomps in the Mario series. It's behavior is different however: the Mega Thwomp will not move even if Link passes underneath it, although a pit full of spikes will deter Link from attempting to take this route. While it is possible (although difficult and dangerous) to go underneath this obstacle, if Link simply dashes into it using his Pegasus Boots, the Mega Thwomp will crack and tumble helplessly to the floor, allowing Link to pass.
In Four Swords Adventures however, the Mega Thwomp behaves in a much more similar manner to a Spiked Thwomp. They appear in the Tower of Winds and drop from a huge height to crush Link underneath. Link will not sustain damage simply by touching them however, and can still climb on them to reach other areas of the dungeon.
