The Nintendo 2DS is an entry level version of the Nintendo 3DS console. It forgoes the autostereoscopic 3D functionality in order to make the device more affordable for families.[1] Whilst the 3DS features a foldable clamshell case, the 2DS is wedge-shaped and contains a solitary panel for both its input and screens. To further reduce costs, stereo sound was omitted from the device in favor of a single monaural speaker.[2] The Nintendo 2DS also lacks the signature 3D display of the Nintendo 3DS.

In North America, the Nintendo 2DS is available in black with red or blue trim. These color configurations are marketed under the names Crimson Red and Electric Blue.[3] In Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, the blue trim model is named simply Black + Blue. The red trim 2DS is sold in white instead of black, under the name White + Red.[4]

A The Legend of Zelda series-themed special Link Edition 2DS bundle was also released. It includes a green console plus a digital copy of Ocarina of Time 3D pre-installed.

The Nintendo 2DS would later receive its own update, the New Nintendo 2DS XL, featuring the same hardware specifications as the New Nintendo 3DS while still lacking 3D support.
