In the volcanic land of Subrosia, there are many types of special, prized stones called Ore. There are six different types of ore: Red and Blue, Hard Ore, Star-Shaped Ore, Fool's Ore, and Ore Chunk, the latter of which is Subrosian currency in Oracle of Seasons.

Types and Function
Red and Blue Ore
When Link takes the two pieces of Red and Blue Ore to the Great Furnace in Subrosia, he can have them melted together to produce the Hard Ore. When the Hard Ore is taken to the Subrosian Smithy along with the Wooden Shield, it will be forged into the Iron Shield.
Hard Ore
The Hard Ore was made when the Red Ore and Blue Ore were combined at the Great Furnace. Link took the Hard Ore and Wooden Shield to the Subrosian Smithy where the two were fused together to make the Iron Shield.
Star-Shaped Ore
Link found the Star-Shaped Ore among the sands of the Subrosian beach. With it, he was able to buy a Ribbon for Rosa, allowing him to unlock a door in the Temple of Seasons and obtain the Power of Summer.
Fool's Ore
When the Strange Brothers took Link's Roc's Feather, they gave him the Fool's Ore. After Link got his Roc's Feather back, he placed the Fool's Ore where the Roc's Feather had been, as collateral.
Ore Chunks
The Ore Chunk is the standard currency of Subrosia, replacing the common Hyrulean rupee because of its local abundance and worth in Subrosian culture. Link can carry up to 999 ore chunks while in Subrosia. When equipped with the Green Joy Ring or Gold Joy Ring, Link will receive double the value of Ore Chunks gathered.
Blue Chunks set the currency standard, as there is no smaller denomination of money in Subrosia. One Blue Chunk represents one Ore Chunk.
Red chunks are worth ten Ore Chunks (ten Blue Chunks).
Gold chunks are worth fifty Ore Chunks (five Red Chunks, or fifty Blue Chunks).
