Roam is a character created for the A Link to the Past comic by Shotaro Ishinomori. The comic appeared in Nintendo Power and was later released as a graphic novel.

Roam is referred to in one of the chapters as "The Mystery Knight." He is said to be a descendant of a master archer from the ranks of the Knights of Hyrule^[1], and went searching for the missing maidens by entering the portal to the Dark World on Death Mountain. He first appears to challenge Link for the Master Sword, and though he is angered by what he sees as Link's immaturity, he accepts that Link is the chosen user of the sword. Roam tells Link he is searching for the enchanted Silver Arrow so that he may defeat Ganon, and departs.

Roam later reappears in Turtle Rock, and helps Link fight a three-headed dragon and save Princess Zelda. Roam separates from them, but the three meet up again at Ganon's Tower. Roam admits he has been unable to find the Silver Arrows, expressing doubt due to his failure to do so, but accompanies Link and Zelda into the tower. Confronted by specters of monsters Link had slain in the past, Roam attacks a specter of Agahnim that advances on Zelda. Roam loses his life dispatching the specter, and Ganon emerges from its remains. Zelda later uses Roam's crossbow to fire the Silver Arrow that kills Ganon.

It is stated in the comic that the Dark World changes the shape of its inhabitants based on their hearts, and a person can only maintain human form by controlling their emotions. Thus, when Roam enters battle he transforms into a humanoid eagle. Contrary to Link, who suppresses his transformation (shown to be a wolf-like creature), Roam considers his transformation an advantage and willingly lets his emotions change him during battle.
