Soil is a soft spot where Link can plant seeds. Link can plant Magic Beans in plots of soil in Ocarina of Time. Open a bottle of Bugs near the soil to find Gold Skulltulas. This is also possible in some soil within the Swamp Spider House of Majora's Mask.
In Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, Link can plant a Gasha Seed in soil. The seed will eventually sprout into a Gasha Tree. According to Bipin, harder to find soils produce rarer Gasha Nut treasures. The Discovery Ring alerts Link to hidden soils usable for planting when equipped.
In The Wind Waker, there is black soil dotting Outset Island. When Link throws All-Purpose Bait on it while the giant pig is near, the pig will dig up the soil. Good treasures can be found in this way.
Twilight Princess only features marked soils for digging when searching with Wolf Link's senses. Normally rupees and recovery hearts are found by digging. Access to vast underground chambers is a common find as well.
