Stingers are manta ray-like monsters in Ocarina of Time that inhabit moist environments, primarily in Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly and the Water Temple.

Characteristics and Weaknesses

Stingers generally travel in packs and scour below the surface of their domain, keeping them from harm and allowing them to sense vibrations nearby. When such a disruption is heard, Stingers will launch themselves in the air and float around their enemy.

Since Stingers are so fragile, they usually maintain a long distance from their opponent, and thus can usually only be killed with items such as the Hookshot, Boomerang, and Fairy Slingshot. However, it is possible to kill Stingers with a jump attack when they are in shallow water. Link must line up behind the Stinger and perform a jump slash to take down the enemy. It will not work if the stinger flies at Link, however. If Link uses the Boomerang on a Stinger mid-flight, it will fall to the ground and flail until it recovers, making it susceptible to other weapons. Stingers can also be killed by being hit with Princess Ruto. When Link is hit by a Stinger, an electric shock is given to Link, making him fall back, and scream.
