[edit] Hello
..... I'm not too sure if I'm using this pm format correctly. It's a lot different than what I'm used to. But yea, I have a few questions. Firstly, for example if you check out the page for the AoL game, you'll find scans of the AoL manual. And look at a character list page for TP or OoT and you'll see an image gallery. I was wanting to do something like that. –Axiomist
- Yeah, you're using it fine. You just edit the users talk page, and using the same Wiki format, you can talk back and forth like so...So if you say something to someone on a talk page, for the answer it's good to check back there. I sent you a PM at ZU, so I hope that explains what you want to do with pictures. I think there may be templates to help with pages such as character lists. I'm not too sure about them, so I'd recommend talking to a sysop. I recommend Adam. He's good. Hope that helps, - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK)
[edit] Ideas
Hi there! At the risk of sounding like some "voice of authority", I feel I have to point out a few things in relation to your ideas for improvement of the wiki:
- Walkthroughs for all Games
It is a matter of general agreement that this wiki is not the place for strategy/walkthroughs. For this purpose, we operate a reciprocal arrangement with strategywiki.org.
- Glitch lists, and Instructions for all Games
A good idea would also be to formalise the formatting/placement of these, as there are a number in various locations around the place.
- 100% Completion Checklists for all games
See point 1 above.
- Theories: Search the internet for every descent theory and give 'em a page
To be treated very carefully. Theories are opinions, and opinions cause conflict. We have a very strongly segregated "timeline theory" area, and display some of the most widely accepted/acknowledged theories within some articles (always within a clearly labelled non-factual section). I'm not saying don't add them, just to remember that this is an encyclopedia of facts, and not a pamphlet of ideas and musings ;P
That said, I'm sure there are others who would disgree with any/all of the above, and such is the nature of a wiki! I only point out what seems to be the majority/longstanding opinion on such matters :) --Adam 18:34, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks so much. I was going to raise the points in Hyrule Castle to get a 'professional' opinion, but you've answered, so thanks. I don't know how you came across my user page, but thanks for reading. And by the way, it's not a 'risk' being a voice of authority to me, "A wise man heeds counsel from the authorities." You could say that's something I go by... To quickly just go over my ideas...
- Walkthroughs: Okay, won't do. Strategywiki sure does have that down pack. I looked around, and the game pages link to that wiki, so that's good, and settled. I'll remember to link to strategy wiki if the situation arises.
- Glitches: I've noticed that some games have full pages on glitches, some just have them on the bottom, other pages aka Fierce Deity Mask I've seen have glitches on the bottom, so I'd be happy to formulate what I can find into specific game pages. I noticed strategywiki, has a glitch link for each game, but the pages don't exist yet.. So just clarifying, is going ahead with making specific glitch pages okay?
- Checklists: Will link, and leave up to strategywiki.
- Theories. Will do as you said, and be careful. I think there are some great theories out there, for example [1] which I think deserves a page. But definately, I won't give everything a page, just those good ones... Can you tell me if you think that linked theory for example, deserves a page...?
Once again, thanks for telling me all that... It's good to have dedicated sysops...Also, I've updates my wiki ideas on my user page, according to your comments.. Regards, - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK)
-
- Yeah, to answer you on the stuff above:
- On that particular theory, it's actually already linked to in it's entirety here. I think that's the way to go - either state it as a reference within an article, or include a summary of the theory within the most elevant article, as appropriate for the situation. Creating a new page for a particular theory would be less good (ouch, that's some horrible grammar ;) ), given that the current trend is towards combining like subjects rather than fragmenting.
- With the glitches however, I'd say it's time to consider separating them as you've suggested. I could see it working in the format of Glitches in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, so we'd end up with one subdivided master-article for each game, specific relevant sections of which could then be linked to from other articles as appropriate. This would be consistent with the treatment of other areas of game-specific content such as characters, items, dungeons etc.
And to answer the question that I've just posed to myself after re-reading my two very different answers on two fairly similar topics, I'd say this; personally I feel this will be the best way to handle each of these. Whereas glitches are highly game-specific and factual in nature, theories are much more subjective, layered, hierarchical, complex, game-independant... in short, difficult to handle! So I'd say that the current solution gives them the correct amount of prominence, and keeps them tied to the most relevant factual information. P.S. Sorry for being so dull and long-winded ;) --Adam 19:23, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

-
- No problem. Your answer is good... Don't be sorry, you're doing a great job. :P. Regarding the glitches, I will use the suggested titles, and get to work on that when I have free time. Obviously MQ and OoT should probably be one page, though MQ has glitches OoT doesn't such as the water temple one I told you, but I still think the one page. Your opinion... Also, I think it is important everyone posting glitches follows the same structure, for example:Glitch Title, Which game version it was performed in, Difficulty/ tries it takes, what it does, and how to do it, and pictures on the right appreciated. Where's somewhere that I can put that template, so that people editing the glitch pages when I make them will use the same structure... I also think it is important that users don't just get glitches from the internet, but only put on ones they have done themselves. For example, I've heard of glitches that can complete the MQ water temple even quicker, but I told you the one that I have used, and know it works. So yeah, where do you think is best to put that so people know? - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK)

-
-
-
- I'd agree that a common format will be needed, but I think that with the possibility of images, videos or neither for each, it would be difficult to draw up a single template. The best idea would be if you start one of the pages with your suggested format, so I can try to work on standardizing it however possible. And yeah, the glitch should have been tested by the writer (attributes as "Information contributed by <user>") --Adam 17:38, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the advice
I'm working on the page now. I'm surprised nothing existed concerning PH's multiplayer mode.Axiomist 22:23, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wow. PH has multiplayer mode. How does that work? Sweet, I'm checking out this new page of yours. I knew FSA could have up to four players, but..cool. And by the way. I'm here anytime you want advice... - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK)

- That, sir, is why the Multiplayer page exists. :P I should add a link to the Battle Mode article in there, shouldn't I? --Ando 01:39, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

- Yeah, I found that multiplayer page. I think the page could be worked and made better. I hate the short page of ZW that more could be put into. So Axiomist, the page exists, but probably needs a bit of work. So feel free to do that... - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK)
- Which page exists? The multiplayer? Battle Mode? Well, I worked hard on that Battle Mode page.twice ;P, thanks to the first one disappearing. Now that I know how to credit images I'm gonna make Battle Mode look sweet!Axiomist 09:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adventure of Link
You're playing Adventure of Link now? Dude, that game is freaking hard. I've gotten to the last level. But I cannot get all the way through it. It is the only game that I own that I'm not able to beat. And I've got quite a stockpile of games built up over the last ten years. Well, good luck anyway.—Matt (T C F S) 07:49, November 3, 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Anti Vandal
So you tried it. Did you decide against it or did you not completely understand how to do it? You need to copy your page to a subpage. Don't move it; vandals will get suspicious if the edit history is empty. Just copy it to a subpage. As the code is now, it would be User:Melchizedek/Wikistuff. You might want to change the sentences to fit your own words.—Matt (T C F S) 16:32, November 6, 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks man. I had a quick glimpse/ attempt the other day, then decided to try it later seen I was tired. But thanks for your help, because I got it happening now. I just need to personalise my message a bit (it's currently the same as yours) and it'll be all good. So, to edit it, I just edit the User:Melchizedek/Wikistuff page right? Again thanks for your help. - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK) 20:52, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

- I figured you wanted to know what happened in that bad experience of mine.
I proved a forum moderator wrong about something. So he banned me for life and blocked my IP from viewing the site. I viewed the site from another PC at a friend's house. Another person had come along and stood up to the mod that blocked me. They did the same thing to him.
Some people are just crazy. Ever since then, I really haven't liked to go into forums. Wikis are better. If a wiki admin ever did what that forum mod did, then that admin would be demoted and banned in a heartbeat. So that is why I prefer wikis.—Matt (T C F S) 02:22, November 8, 2008 (UTC)
That IP they blocked my from was the one at my house, not this one. So now I can at least get on the site.

[edit] Auto Confirmed
To become an auto-confirmed user you have to make a lot of edits that don't have mistakes in them. And If they do, you fix them right away. If you do a lot of minor edits, you're more likely to become auto-confirmed. But it is really up to Adam and Ando to decide.—Matt (T C F S) 01:08, November 15, 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Nav Template
It didn't work? How far off was it?—Matt (T C F S) 07:24, November 15, 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it was centred in the actual page but not between the picture and links. So there was my avatar on the left, then big nothing, then came my name, and then the links on the right hand side were squished to about 2 letters per line, making it go a far way down the page. - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK) 07:31, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sig
Have you noticed how your sig sometimes breaks to a new line? If you use   ; (without the space before the ; ) in place of a normal space in it, then it won't do that anymore.—Matt (T C F S) 06:48, November 26, 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Glitches
"...If a glitch has not been proven true after _, then the glitch will be removed from the page entirely." I think we need to think of a time frame to fill in that "_" space. Also, what do you think of a "Glitches Deleted From Page" section. It would show all of the names of the glitches that were deleted. So thoughs that were deleted would not show up again as "new." Zien 19:59, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
-
- Okay, sorry for the delayed response. Hmm. Some good ideas. I feel 2 weeks seems like a decent amount of time for someone to try and attempt the glitch and see whether it can be performed, before then stating their findings on the appropriate talk page where we'd discuss and remove the glitch or investigate it more. What I see for the future is once we've got a decent glitch section happening here at ZW, that people can't just add glitches to the pages. I know it's a free all to edit wiki, but we need boundaries. If someone has a glitch idea they post it on the glitch page, and someone authorised, such as me or you, tests it and writes it up according to the decided upon glitch format. (Yet to be made) That's what I see for the future, but because for the moment we have limited workers on these Glitch pages, I don't know if we could always investigate a glitch within a time frame. So, to sum up this babbling, I say we should leave that space for the moment, not make too many regulations and just get some glitches up there meeting the quality standards of ZW.
-
- As for creating a place to dump glitches that have been proven wrong and deleted, I think that would be useful, just where would we put this page. Maybe the Category talk: Glitches page! Matt may have a good idea for a location for it. Anyway, I hope my answers are fine, if you want more feel free to ask. - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK) 04:57, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

The page is: Glitches/Disproved Glitches. All of the edits from the old page were preserved.—Matt (T C F S) 01:30, December 8, 2008 (UTC)
- Good stuff. A question, why doesn't it have a little link at the top of the page redirecting back to the main page like I've seen on other sub pages.
- Also, I know that this Disproved Glitches is mainly for reference to us wiki people, however wiki browsers may be interested by it. Do you think it's worth having a link on the glitch template? - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK) 05:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
-
- I've questioned why the back link doesn't appear as well. I think that it doesn't appear for certain namespaces. That's a mainspace page, so it doesn't appear there. User pages, though, have the links. More experimentation is required, I guess.
- I think that it might be good to have an extra link to it, yeah. Just a quick "for glitches proven to not work, view this page" sort of deal. —Ando (talk) 05:49, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Signature
I have read through ALL of the sig rules, how to make them, etc. But, I am still missing the codes. You could say that I have the oven ready, but no dough. Matt said you really don't wnant to type out all of the codes for sigs. [For it will make the page too big, etc.] I am not sure, but are the coddings different from the coddings for normal editing? [See the editing box for symbols, etc.] I have looked at a few sigs, and don't see many differences. Knowing Jason, and all of them, they likely already put down all of the codes needed for sigs; but newby me does not know the ordering, etc. So, if there is any way for me to get the codes, that would be great. I am getting tired of having the plain, and simple golden colored link. Thanks, and whatnot: -Zien 00:01, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
-
- Okay, so you're following this: Help:Custom Signatures#Method Two. That method is better. So you are stuck on step 2, the coding. Yes, that is the same as any other wiki editing. That's how I made mine. You just edit is using wiki formatting, change fonts, add hexadecimal colours etc. It isn't too hard to type out. I will help you further if you require it! - M E L C H I Z E D E K (TALK) 00:27, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, just mainly making a few "grammar nazi"ish edits to the articles, particularly the glitch pages.
