[edit] Hey

Hello. I'm Ando, one of the sysops here. Sorry if it seems like we're ignoring the Zeldapendium / Zelda Wiki affiliation we've got going now -- because I'm certainly not. It's just that I'm waiting for our tech guys to hopefully implement a new way of linking to Zeldapendium (with links on the left sidebar instead of the template method being used now). I just figured I'd let you know in case there were any thoughts of "why aren't they linking to us? Are they ignoring us?" I for one would love to link every article here to Zeldapendium -- once we get the links working that way. :) —Ando (talk) 19:14, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ando, no, I just thought that nobody knows the German names *gg* So whenever I link from Zeldapendium to ZeldaWiki.org I also add the template here.
If you want to have the links on the left you can go to Special:Interwiki and add a new one with the prefix "de" and the URL "http://www.zeldapendium.de/wiki/$1". The prefix "de" causes MediaWiki to interpret it as an interlanguage link instead of an interwiki link (only interlanguage links are shown in the sidebar). There is no other possibility to add "custom" interlanguage link prefixes (the parser detects automatically if the prefix is a language code or not, using Language::getLanguageName(), see http://svn.wikimedia.org/doc/Language_8php-source.html#l00442).
At Zeldapendium we use a table containing all translations because we want to compare them :-). The table is added by a template and in this template we link to [[en:...]].
Should I wait adding the "zp" templates until you decided if you want to change anything? --Pascal 20:04, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, we do have an interwiki link set up. But it is not with the prefix "de". We can change it I think. And yes, not many of us know the German names.Matt (T C F S) 20:12, January 10, 2009 (UTC)
!!! Wow! We were under the impression that you actually had to manually access the database and modify it to add interwiki links -- that's why we hadn't done it yet! Thank you very much for this information! THIS IS INCREDIBLE. I will test this out now. —Ando (talk) 20:28, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
It worked! You're brilliant, Pascal. Thank you very very very much. I will now work with getting as many Zeldapendium links on here as possible. —Ando (talk) 20:31, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, for the Ganon article -- would you rather it link to Zeldapendium's Ganon article or Ganondorf? Because the Ganondorf article seems to be a closer German analogue to what we have here than the Ganon article. —Ando (talk) 20:46, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
you're welcome ;-)
Ah, you have a combined article for both of them ... yes, I also think the "Ganondorf Dragmire" article is closer. --Pascal 21:01, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Alright, it's done. Now to figure out what to do with Gleeok (you appear to have it split into three articles?)... I'm not sure where to go with that one, honestly. —Ando (talk) 21:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Erm ... Gleeok, this article also links to Griock and Glirock (... yeah, the translators were creative and used three different names for Gleeok, but that's the same with some other characters and places ...)
I've created a table at User:Pascal/Translations, there are all interlanguage links from ZP to ZW listed - so if you don't know a German name (as Matt said, I think there are not too many people that know the German names) you can copy it there. --Pascal 21:37, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
We were what Ando? I wasn't under that impression. I knew full well that special page existed, for many months. And I made the interwiki link ages ago.Matt (T C F S) 21:43, January 10, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion

Hi there! I've made a suggestion on a slight alteration to the way we add the interlanguage links to articles on the staff boards. Could you hold off on addding them for the moment, until there's a decision? Thanks. Adam [ talk ] 23:21, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I'm going to sleep now anyway :-) Pascal 23:24, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Same here, I'll let the others give it some thought in the meantime... Adam [ talk ] 23:28, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Interlanguage Links

Hi there! Sorry, I forgot to let you know the outcome. Basically, everyone agreed that it was better to use a template rather than just the bare [[de:__]] links. The template is here, and using it gives the advantage of being able to easily find all the pages which have had German language links added. Also, it means that a list of translated titles can be added all at one to the template itself, so that all that needs to be added to the articles when editing is {{de}}. This has already been done with the list you provided here, and it should make it pretty easy to add more in the future. I'll try and do some myself; my German is basic at best, but I'm sure I can manage to match up things like Bosses and Dungeons ;) Adam [ talk ] 16:02, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
