Appearing only in Link's Awakening, Animal Village is a small village of animals that all live together peacefully and are able to speak the same language as Link. It is located in the bottom right hand corner of Koholint Island just before Yarna Desert.

The inhabitants consist of rabbits, squirrels, a goat named Christine, a bear, an alligator artist named Schule Donavitch, a hippo, and a Zora. All the animals seem to be enamored with the singing voice of Marin, who goes with Link to sing the Ballad of the Wind Fish to all of the inhabitants that live there. Otherwise, the animals constantly remind Link that Marin must come back someday to sing them another song.

It is hinted at by one of the residents that live there that the Animal Village, in fact, is a sister town to that of Mabe Village. The reason that these two villages were never seen to have closer bands than what was shown was mainly because of the uprising in monster sightings and attacks that spanned the area connecting the two together.

A Heart Container can be found in the cave around here. South of the village, at the end of a small pond, a warp pedestal can be found. One destination point from it leads very close to Mabe Village.

Trivia

The hippo as she appears in the PAL (top) and NTSC (bottom) versions of the game.
  • In the Japanese and European versions of the game, the hippo was actually posing as a nude model. She had a towel around the lower half of her body, and her upper body had what appeared to be breasts. When Link walked in, she would quickly pull her towel up and sit down. This explains her response of "Go away!" when Link speaks to her. Nintendo of America deemed this to be too inappropriate for American audiences, however. As a result, the towel was removed and she was given a more unisex appearance. A patch was later developed to restore her towel and apparent breasts.[1]
