Appearances

Ocarina of Time

The Bomb Flower first appears on Death Mountain. A Goron states that the Bomb Flowers are the only plants that will grow on Death Mountain and they are implied to only grow there as well. The Bomb Flower is found next to most doors and in hallways in Goron City and are required to blow up the rocks blocking the warp to the Lost Woods and the rock blocking the entrance to Dodongo's cavern. The Bomb Flowers are also seen growing in Death Mountain in the Fire Temple, suggesting they can survive even volcanic temperatures, though it is not needed for them to survive. Link is required to have the Gorn braclet from Darunia to pick up a Bomb Flower.

Majora's Mask

Also only seen growing in this game. They serve as obstacles during the Goron races.

Oracle of Seasons / Oracle of Ages

A Bomb Flower also appears in Oracle of Seasons. It is found in Subrosia and is used to blow a way into the Tower of Autumn. One also appears in Oracle of Ages and is used to free the Goron elder.

Wind Waker

Bomb Flowers make another reappearance in this game, serving the same purpose as they did in Ocarina of Time. They are only found on Dragon Roost Island

Phantom Hourglass

Bomb Flower's continue to serve as early substitutes for bombs in this reincarnation.

Twilight Princess

Although Bomb Flowers are not present in this game, a plant called the Bombling serves the same purpose, an early substitute for bombs. Bomblings can later be bought in markets to be used anywhere. Interstingly, they also replace Bombchus, as they are placed and walk into whatever you need to blow up.

Bomb Flowers do appear, however, although through hacking, and can be found and interacted with. They make a strange metallic sound when they explode. They were most likely replaced by Bomblings. A video showing the beta bomb flower can be seen here.

Skyward Sword

In Skyward Sword, Bomb flowers appears somewhat smaller than in their past appearances. Also, when Link picks one up, a line will appear from the bomb, and then curve to the floor. This line will show the path the bomb flower will take once thrown by Link.

Trivia

  • Bomb Flowers also have another additional, and perhaps lesser known, use. In Ocarina of Time, their fibers are claimed to be one of 2 materials of which Goron Tunics are made, the other being Dodongo scales, in order for them to be heat-resistant. [1]
  • Bomb Flowers immediately detonate when caught in an explosion, are lit on fire, or in the case of The Wind Waker, if they are struck by a weapon. Bomb flowers in The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass seem to be much more fragile than their Ocarina of Time counterpart, as Link does not need the Goron Bracelet or any other assistance to pick them up, and they can be detonated by being hit with just about anything.
  • In Twilight Princess, bomb flowers do not appear, although through hacking, bomb flowers can be found and interacted with. They make a strange metallic sound when they explode. They were most likely replaced by Bomblings. A video showing the beta bomb flower can be seen here.
  • In Ocarina of Time, a Goron states that a Bomb Flower will only grow in a shaded enviroment and are rare in sunlight (such as the one he is trying to shade next to him). This seems to portray the idea that Bomb Flowers only need heat to survive.
  • In Ocarina of Time, Bomb Flowers are an essential ingredient in the making of regular bombs.
