Biography

Link's Awakening

In Link's Awakening, there are two fishermen. One of them can be found in Mabe Village and will allow Link to go fishing for 10 Rupees.[1] The second one has lost his Fishing Hook and can be found underneath a bridge in Martha's Bay.[2] Link can trade him the Fishing Hook Grandma Ulrira finds while sweeping the river bank for his next catch,[3][4] which happens to be the Necklace.[5][6] In Template:LADX, he appears in a photo in the The Travels of Link album.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, the Fisherman owns a Fishing Pond in Lake Hylia. The Fisherman allows Link to lure fish for an unlimited time at a cost of 20 Rupees.[7] He considers himself an expert at catching fish, going as far as referring to himself as an old pro.[8] Although, he refuses to reveal any fishing secrets to Link since he considers them to be company secrets. He has a tendency to continuously end his sentences with "I'm serious!,"[9][10][11] and has a neverending itch in his armpit.

When Link goes back to the Fishing Pond as an adult, the Fisherman will now be wearing a hat to try and cover his bald spot.[12] Moreover, he mentions that he is almost out of business since Link, his only customer, was gone for seven years.[13] If Link breaks the rules and casts the Fishing Rod at the Fisherman, he can grab his hat to confirm the fact that he has started to go bald.[14] Link can then choose to give him back his hat or throw it into the pond. If Link chooses the latter, the hat can be lost forever, so Link will have to pay a 50 Rupee fine.[15]

The Fisherman makes a small cameo in Hena's Fishing Hole in Twilight Princess, were a picture of him holding a Hyrule Loach appears.[16] Hena also believes to be his descendant, sharing both his passion for fishing and his awkward itch.[17][18]

Majora's Mask

The Swamp Fisherman in Majora's Mask 3D

In Majora's Mask, the Fisherman is found in the Fisherman's Hut at the Great Bay Coast. He has been fishing for 30 years and claims to be the best fisherman there is, even better than the Zoras.[19] He continues to say that due to warm and murky waters of late, he has not been able to catch many fish.[20] He also mentions that he used a tool called a Hookshot to catch fish off the coast, but was suddenly attacked by female pirates and took away the Hookshot claiming it was a legendary treasure.[21] If Link inspects the Seahorse in his house, the Fisherman will say that it is a rare specimen, and was planning to sell it at the carnival. If Link brings him a Pictograph of a Gerudo Pirate from the Pirates' Fortress, he gives him the Seahorse in exchange.[22][23]

After completing the Great Bay Temple and defeating Gyorg, the Fisherman will relocate to a small island near the Pirate's Fortress.[24] Link cannot reach the island unless he rides on a nearby motorboat and then Hookshot over to the island. He will let Link play the Fisherman's Jumping Game, in which he has to jump across several islands, trying to land on the island with a lit torch.[25] If the young hero obtains at least 20 points, he will receive a Piece of Heart as a prize from the Fisherman. After Link wins, the Fisherman tells the young hero that he regrets having made the game so easy, saying he was thinking of buying a big ship but cannot anymore because he might go bankrupt.[26]

Majora's Mask 3D

The Fisherman will share secrets about fishing with Link if he is talked to.[29] [30]He will also mention that a certain fish can be caught on that day. [31]Just as in Ocarina of Time, the Fisherman's headgear can be hooked with the fishing rod to reveal a bald head.[32] Link must then give him every Rupee currently in his wallet as reparation.[33] If Link has no Rupees, he will forgive the offense.[34] He will sometimes mention his younger brother, who is the Fisherman that runs the Ocean Fishing Hole.[35]The Fisherman also bears a great resemblance to the Man from the Trading Post, and the Man from the Curiosity Shop.
