Mushrooms are, like their real-world counterparts, small spore-bearing fruiting bodies of fungus that Link can pickup and use during various events. The Mushroom is one of the few acquirable items that Link cannot actually use on himself; the toadstool is either given to and used by someone else, sold, or used a stepping stone to obtain some great treasure as part of a trading sequence.

[[|]] Mushrooms are a recurring item in the Template:LZS. They are typically items used for various events that Link cannot use on himself, usually to be exchanged for something else.

Appearances

A Link to the Past

In A Link to the Past, the Magic Mushroom can be found within the Lost Woods. Link can offer it to the Witch in exchange for Magic Powder.

Link's Awakening

In Link's Awakening, the Sleepy Toadstool is found in the Mysterious Woods. It can be given to the Witch to be made into Magic Powder.[1] The Sleepy Toadstool can apparently cause unusual effects when eaten.[1] Tarin, who has a fondness for mushrooms, had eaten one while at the Mysterious Woods and was transformed into a raccoon. Link uses the Magic Powder to turn him back.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, the Odd Mushroom is part of the Trading Sequence. The Young Punk Guy gives the Mushroom to Link in exchange for Cojiro. The Mushroom is then to be delivered to the Old Hag in Kakariko Village to be made into the Odd Potion. The Odd Mushroom goes bad after three minutes (or instantly after warping), and cannot be delivered in such a condition.

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask, a Magic Mushroom's scent can be detected with the Mask of Scents and stored in an empty Bottle. One can be found in the Woods of Mystery, and another can be found growing on a pair of boxers and in the washroom in the Stock Pot Inn. These can be sold to the Magic Hags' Potion Shop in the Southern Swamp for 40 Rupees each, and at least one must be delivered before Blue Potions can be purchased there.

Oracle of Seasons

In Oracle of Seasons, Rock Mushrooms, also known as Petri Fungus, appear as a kind of obstacle in Holodrum. It is a rock-solid fungus that can only be picked with the Power Bracelet during the autumn season.

A Mushroom also appears as a Trading Sequence item. Using a Megaphone, Link can wake up the slumbering Talon in a cave atop Mt. Cucco. In exchange for waking him, Talon will offer Link a Mushroom, which can in turn be given to Syrup of Sunken City in exchange for the Wooden Bird.[2]

The Minish Cap

In The Minish Cap, the Wake-Up Mushroom is required for Link to obtain the Pegasus Boots. It is bought from Syrup the Witch, at the price of 60 Rupees.[3][4][5] It is then given to Rem, the owner of Rem's Shoe Store, waking him up. In return, Link will receive the Pegasus Boots.

Elastic mushrooms can also be found in certain areas while Link is shrunk to Minish size. The Gust Jar can be used to suck and pull back the mushroom caps, which will then fling Link across holes once released.
