During the night of the invasion on [[Ordon Village]], the villagers plan on using the shield and the [[Swords of Twilight Princess#Ordon Sword|sword]] that [[Rusl]] crafted to fend off the monsters. [[Link]], in his [[Wolf Link|wolf form]], can enter [[Jaggle]] and [[Pergie|Pergie's]] house from the roof and steal the shield off of the wall. Only after he has been turned back into a human by the [[Light Spirit]] can he use it. Since this shield is made out of wood, it will burn up if it makes contact with fire, so acquiring the [[Hylian Shield]] before entering the [[Goron Mines]] makes progression easier.
