Gamers could also enter the first five letters of their name as "ZELDA" in the name input screen to start the second quest automatically.

In OoT3D, after completing the normal game, the Master Quest is unlocked. It contains the same content as the separate game MQ for the GameCube. It is an alternate version of OoT designed to be more difficult with tougher dungeons, enemies, and puzzles. Different to the GameCube version, the entirety of Hyrule is mirrored and Link takes twice as much damage.
Similar to The Legend of Zelda, the Second Quest can also be obtained after completing the game, and the file of the player would have a Triforce piece next to their name. The features included are that the player gets to keep all the Spells learned in the previous quest, and the levels for Skill, Magic, and Life are also carried over. Special items found in palaces such as the Candle had to be retrieved again, as well as any Heart Containers and Magic Containers obtained.

The second quest in TAoL can be obtained after completing the game. The file will now include a Triforce piece next to its name. A Second Quest appears in TWW (but not TWWHD, which features Hero Mode instead). This game's Second Quest makes primarily aesthetic changes — namely, Link will wear his initial outfit for the entire game (consequently obtaining the Hero's New Clothes as opposed to the Hero's Clothes in the First Quest), Aryll will wear her ending pirate outfit for the entire game, and all Hylian text will be translated into a readable dialect.

Link also starts with the Deluxe Picto Box, with the same pictures he had in the first quest, and enables the player to take photos of characters at the very start. Though it is very possible to obtain every photograph and every figurine in the first quest, the second quest tends to make obtaining all of the figurines a little easier.

In the OoX, the password-linking aspect of the files allows Link to continue a quest from one title to the next. Things carried over include Link's given name, Bipin and Blossom's Son's name, and the Strange Flute. The file screen will have a different icon as well. The icon changes yet again if Link uses a password to create a third quest file. This Hero's Secret allows Link play the first game again with an extra Heart and the Victory Ring.

There is, however, one important gameplay-related change; the locations of sunken treasure from Treasure Charts will be different - usually further away from the island than they were in the first quest. This makes identifying the island from the chart somewhat more difficult, as much less of the island is visible on the chart, and many islands look alike when only a small part is visible.

Hero Mode is featured in many of the most recent Zelda games, including SS, TWWHD, ALBW, HW, and TPHD. Hero Mode makes the game more difficult by increasing damage dealt by enemies, decreasing Link's Hearts, or making them more difficult to heal. Other minor gameplay or cosmetic changes may also occur. In all games it appears in, with the exception of The Wind Waker HD, it cannot be accessed until after the game is completed. In The Wind Waker HD only, Hero Mode can be activated or deactivated at any point during gameplay through the file select screen.

The Legend of Zelda second quest file

The second quest in The Legend of Zelda is unlocked after Link has beaten the game. Doing so will replace the file icon with Link holding a Sword. This new quest consists of dungeons being located in different places with an added difficulty degree. Heart Containers and some shops found in the overworld are also changed to different locations. The name "ZELDA" can be used in the name input screen to start the second quest automatically. This quest was created due to the programmers using only half of the space allocated for map data, so it was decided to use the other half as another quest.[1]

Ocarina of Time 3D

In Ocarina of Time 3D, after completing the normal game, the Master Quest is unlocked. It contains the same content as the separate game Master Quest for the GameCube. It is an alternate version of Ocarina of Time designed to be more difficult with tougher dungeons, enemies, and puzzles. Different to the GameCube version, the entirety of Hyrule is mirrored and Link takes twice as much damage.

New Game Plus

This type of second quest often lets Link access certain features earlier in the game than usual, sometimes by letting him carry over items from the previous playthrough. Minor gameplay or cosmetic changes are sometimes made as well.

The Adventure of Link

File:Link Outset Clothes
Link during The Wind Waker second quest

The second quest in The Adventure of Link can be obtained after completing the game. The file will now include a Triforce piece next to its name. During the second quest, Link gets to keep all the Spells learned in the previous quest, as well as his levels for Skill, Magic, and Life. Special items found in palaces such as the Candle have to be retrieved again, as well as any Heart Containers and Magic Containers.

Oracle Series

In the Template:OoX, the password-linking aspect of the files allows Link to continue a quest from one title to the next.

The Wind Waker

In The Wind Waker, the second quest makes primarily aesthetic changes. These include Link wearing his initial outfit for the entire game, Aryll wearing her ending pirate outfit from the start of the game, and all spoken Hylian text will be translated. Link also starts with the Deluxe Picto Box with the same Pictographs he had in the first quest. This enables him to take color Pictographs from the very start. Though it is very possible to obtain every Pictograph and every Figurine in the first quest, the second quest makes obtaining all of the Figurines easier. Also, the location of sunken treasure from Treasure Charts will be different, usually further away from the island than they were in the first quest. This makes identifying the island from the chart somewhat more difficult, as much less of the island is visible on the chart.

Hero Mode

Main article: Hero Mode

Hero Mode is featured in many of the most recent Zelda games, including Skyward Sword, The Wind Waker HD, A Link Between Worlds, Hyrule Warriors, and Twilight Princess HD.

Other Appearances

Game & Watch Zelda
