Problem.

I have a problem while trying to upload a file. I can't select the game, type or licensing. The only option given is "None selected". Template:Nosig

Fixed. It was an issue with page caching. If ever the problem comes up again, you can fix it by purging the cache of these pages: MediaWiki:Games, MediaWiki:Filetype, and MediaWiki:Licenses.

Add Some Pictures, Videos, and Info about the prototype of the first Zelda game.

Since there is no info about the prototype about the first Zelda game, the original FDS version prototype. I'd figure that we should add info about it, it would be a great thing. Some photos can be added. I can take snapshots of this leaked prototype from 2010. It's official after all. Should there be a gallery dedicated to it. --Pwwnd123 (talk) 21:36, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Hyrule Warriors Illustrations

For Hyrule Warriors theres a bunch of listings at the bottom of the page. i thnink it would be great to add one of the illustrations or even go more in depth and add gold skulltula info. but im thinking that pictures of completed illustrations and the dlc ones would be great. REQUEST : Page that lists iterations in order

–I think a page that gathers as much information as possible about re-releases of game would be very appreciated. Particularly for Ocarina of Time, but other games as well.

I'm looking for information on Twilight Princess, as I know the original release contained the infamous game-ending bug. This was fixed of course. However I was wondering if there was still a way to tell which of these early launch day copies has the bug without opening it.

This and the subsequent replay of this incident in Skyward Sword are just minor examples. For the latter it might be handy to note that all copies of the bundle are verified to contain the bug, just to drive home the point further. Servantofgod (talk) 00:41, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Moving the Names template

Hi all,

The staff was discussing our article format and Pakkun proposed that we move the Names in Other Regions template up into "Etymology" sections. They would be the last of section of articles before the Gallery.

So it would look something like this, this, or this.

This has a few advantages. For one, it gives editors space to write about the names in full paragraphs. Two, having a dedicated section makes it easier to find the table and edit it. Three, that information belongs in the main body of the article anyway, not below references and nav templates. The only downside I can see is that in some cases (like my last link) the table can create a big gap between the Etymology section and the next section down.

Wind Waker artworks

Hello,

this page already offers quite a lot artworks of the original Wind Waker, but only a few of the new HD version. Could somebody with access to the Nintendo library upload files which are not already on the wiki, if they are more?

For example there isn't a version of the Master Sword in high resolution. All 3 uploaded Master Sword Stages have a pretty bad quality. Template:Nosig

Question on WIP pages

I happen to be a big Hyrule Warriors fan, and want to submit to creating information on the game. My current project is resting in my sandbox, and is a page on Special Attacks. However, being new to the site, I feel, it may be more efficient to put it up as an actual page, with a WIP box on the top. This way, as contributions are added to the page, it can be updated and brought 'up to code' in ways I have yet to be experienced in.

Before making this decision, I would like to know if this would be allowed, or if I should just keep it in my sandbox and work on my own until it is finished. As it stands, it has yet to have all of the chart filled.

First of all, awesome work that you've done so far! We could really use an article detailing each of the characters' Special Attacks, so thanks for helping us out! I would suggest that you add more about what a Special Attack really is (sort of like an introduction and overall use, the bazaar Badges that affect Special Attacks, etc.) so that the article can have more of an overall explanation of it instead of just listing each attack. I'm not sure if I explained myself correctly, but I think by looking at some of the Sword Techniques articles, such as Hidden Skill, Jump Attack, and Spin Attack, you can sort of see what I mean: they all in some shape or form mention what the attack is used for, how to perform it, and even any upgrades it may have (such as the bazaar Badges I mentioned earlier). I think once you have those things added, it would definitely be ready to be put on an actual page, even if all of the Special Attacks aren't listed.

Sword pages (Hyrule Warriors and otherwise)

While I was making a page for the Knight's Sword in Hyrule Warriors, I realized that not all swords had articles, and some in the Swords template just link to their "swords by game" page. Generic unnamed Swords most of the time just link to a "Swords in" page, such as the Sword from LA. The Swords template seems to be a little outdated, so will have to fix that. - Chuck * ^(Talk) 00:50, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Fan-made Content

I wanted to know if there's a page for fan-made content like fan art, remixes, and other stuff like that. If not, then do you know a good website for uploading fan-made LoZ content? A Link Between Worlds Swords Page

I checked in the wanted pages section and there was a page called Swords of A Link Between Worlds. When I checked on the A Link Between Worlds article in the Items section, I already found the possible swords. The items sections are only for listing items. Athough we also have pages for Swords with more detailed info, such as Swords of Ocarina of Time. Hi, for images for SS item screens, I have everything set up to capture the item screens. I am even prepped to make perfect(?) overlays (semi-transparency) using [1] through textures, camera angles and "disable lighting"+"disable fog". However I may be constrained in terms of getting copies with the different versions of items etc. I also ask, what screen should be used? Using only the B-button select screen may be limited, though the entire gear screen(s) may have too many changes (esp. since SS has fancy animated shiny effects etc. for their screens) though it may become easier if I can confirm the item sections in the gear screen are opaque and that we can copy-paste the original sprites/textures. They were entirely intentional, as we (Zelda Wiki and Zelda Universe staff) decided that all theories are to be moved to Zelda Universe's forums and/or stripped of fan conjecture (to ensure that we remain as close to the facts as possible). Covering topics like this isn't really our focus, since we're not a general community site (our purpose being to document rather than report). I've passed the word on to some news-y people I know in the hopes that they'll feature it, but it might be better for you to just go straight to sites that do cover news topics, like Zelda Universe (or any other "Zelda ____" site). It'll be interesting to see what comes of it, but I don't think it's our place to spread the news of it (so much as to, say, find some way to document it once it's concluded).

Hey, I was just thinking maybe we could have walkthroughs for the games? I could help, maybe I could do windwaker if i'm allowed? Thank you for showing initiative and a willingness to help us out. The thing is, since we're an encyclopedia, our purpose here at the wiki is to document facts about the Zelda games. Walkthroughs aren't in the scope of our project. Also, we're already close partners with Zelda Universe, which is making their own guides.

There's tons of other stuff you can do to help us out, if you're interested (see here for more info). We're happy to have new hands on deck. Moving theories out of articles into a new namespace or into the Community namespace

After looking at a bunch of articles over the past few days, I had an idea. I feel this wiki would greatly benefit from a Theories namespace, or move all theories from their respective articles to the Community namespace. Since wikis are all about sticking to the facts, this could provide the separation between theory and fact in articles. It could also prevent the wiki from seeming both ambiguous and concrete within the same article.

Some may argue, if this was done, a user down the line could make a counterargument to put the theories back into their respective articles. This idea is tough to reconcile in the light of articles like Dark Tribe, Hero of Men and Tetraforce, which are nearly all theory, theory-heavy Sacred Realm, and sub-pages on theories, like Sheikah/Theories, that already subscribe to this idea. By placing theories elsewhere, we can keep better track of all theories, and make it a "one-stop-shop" for readers looking only for theory info. Plus, many forums don't have a "one-stop-shop" for theories - they're all littered amongst the threads. It'd be a large job, I know, but if the staff was ambitious, they could even appoint someone to "patrol" the theory namespace. We've shown so far that the Community namespace is great at keeping non-factual and often non-Zelda information out of the main wiki. It would make article pages shorter and easier to load, and less messy (removes the bulky "Theory Warning" marquee, also).

A simple hyperlink could take the reader from the fact page to the theory page, and back. In this day and age, all browsers have the ability to open multiple tabs. While it might be a minor inconvenience to transfer back and forth between fact and theory parts of the same topic, I think it would overall increase the legitimacy, cleanliness, and ease of locating facts on this wiki. Some time ago it was decided among the current staff and the ZU staff that all theories would be moved onto their theory board as a master thread and all theories would be removed and relocated there. We're currently in the process of this, but it's a very slow process. Since ZW and ZU are closely partnered, it simply makes sense to leave theories to the general community side (ZU's forums) and retain the factual information in a clean and presentable manner here.

We've been concerned about the theories, ourselves, but they'll either be integrated into the article of question as purely logical conjecture or transferred over to the forums entirely. From then on, it'll be the responsibility of staff to help keep theories off of articles and direct theorists to their appropriate place. Certain theories that were once huge and critical to the fandom may be preserved for archival purposes, but they won't have any place in the mainspace, so to speak. - Tony^{T S C} 18:39, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Help confirming my email

Hello. For some reason, Zelda Wiki hasn't sent me a confirmation code, although it has been days since I've signed up and had Zelda Wiki to send the code to me. When I've tried to have it resent, it says, "A confirmation code has already been emailed to you; if you recently created your account, you may wish to wait a few minutes for it to arrive before trying to request a new code." Below this sentence is a button saying, "Mail a confirmation code"; I've clicked it a number of times, but the problem persists. Also, I've confirmed that I have my email address typed correctly. That's probably best.

The issue must be with the wiki software (MediaWiki). Unfortunately we're on an outdated version of the software that isn't supported anymore, so we'd have to upgrade it before we could make a bug report to the MediaWiki devs. We'll try to have that done as soon as we can, but it's quite the undertaking so it might be a while before the issue can be fixed. Sorry about that. :/

Images sourced from the Internet

Hi, I decided to search File:MM3D_Ambrosial_Amberjack.jpg using Google image search (I can't remember why, maybe if there was a better one?) and I found it on this website: [2]. Examining the image here and on that website, I noticed they were the same (well, the one here had those artifacts you get from jpg quality for some reason). My question is should I ask before uploading it and the other relevant nice fish images (in addition, converting to png), or just do: "Any file found on the Web should have its source cited in the "Source" field of the upload form (copy-pasting the URL will do)."(from the Upload file page)? They will go be used in Fishing#Majora.27s_Mask_3D, and in addition, should I use the information the person provided on the page as well? (and put [citation needed]? I'll answer the questions in the order that you asked them:

You don't need to ask permission to upload in-game images. (The copyrights belong to Nintendo and not that person, so it's not their permission to give.) However we do insist on sourcing, as a common courtesy to the person who went through the trouble of getting the image and uploading it to their site.
It's hard to answer that question without knowing exactly what information you plan on using. Ideally we would like to have all our information confirmed by one of our own users or a trusted source. If I were you I would:
1. Try to find a more reliable source of information than a one-man blog (an official game guide, for example).
2. Cite your source whenever you use information from a website (using Template:Cite web). Gameplay elements that are common knowledge don't need to be cited, but keep in mind it's better to cite too much than not enough.
3. Add {{Verify|MM3D}} to the statements that you add. A more knowledgeable user can confirm the information for you (and remove the citation if appropriate).
If I were you, I would put both the URL and the person's name: Gamer Zelgerath

I may need to update the upload guide... I wrote "copy-pasting the URL will do" because I was afraid that if I put anything more complicated, certain users might not bother citing at all.

Hi, I'm new to wiki discussion, so I'm fumbling a bit with adding this response, but I am Zelgerath from the website Zelgerath.com where I put some nice fish pictures. I'm at your service when it comes to consolidating information and graphics for this wiki, but I'm not so good at formatting and stuff like that so I apologize in advance if I'm not replying in the correct way. I just want to say that the information I provided in the article is accurate. It doesn't have all the answers to how fishing works in Majora's Mask but it's more detailed than any official guide that I have ever found. The only bit that I'm not sure about is how many fish one has to catch before the "boss fish" (unofficial description) are able to appear, however I did say in the article that I wasn't sure about that. As Hylian King said, because they are in-game screenshots you don't technically have to ask my permission to use them, but by all means, go for it. I tend to use MiiVerse to capture my screenshots but I also have a 3DS Recorder which can do the same thing and I'd be happy to help the wiki if anything comes up where those tools would be useful. There are a lot of cool Zelda quotes, but I don't think factual, encyclopedic articles are the place for them. It just seems rather fanboyish. Yeah, we are just a fan site but we also strive to deliver professional content. And besides, how do you choose what quote to use? It's a subjective choice at best and an arbitrary one at worst.

Replacing numbers one hundred and lower (87, 3, 0, 10) with spelled out numbers (eighty-seven, three, zero, ten) with a Bot

Since it's a wiki we should be editting in Chicago style and for numbers, there are a few rules that are followed. Either (a) numbers one hundred and lower are spelled out, or (b) numbers zero through nine are spelled out. This helps keep the flow of articles going and makes it easier for most people to read. When you're reading something that suddenly starts using digits (87, 3, 0, 10) it can break the flow of reading, slow you down, and sometimes become unclear in worst situations. Of course, this isn't the case for everyone, but many. Additionally, it is more grammatically correct to follow along with the Chicago style. I propose we could make a bot to try and change this (replacing 1 2 3 with one two three on every article) but what do you guys think? Is it not that big of a deal or should we do something?

Most of all I'd just like consistency. Articles I've been going across (I usually just edit by "random article") have in some cases "24 rupees, 6 bottles" and other cases have "forty rupees, twelve heart containers" for example, so there isn't a clear continuity across the whole Wiki. I propose we stick with some method, (and in my personal opinion I think one hundred and lower should be spelled) and stick with it. Yes this isn't the most pressing topic by any means, but I'm just wondering what do you all think about this? --Nullatrum^(t)(c) 22:06, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

It would be great if we had a bot to maintain a numbering standard. The thing is, I don't think we have the resources to make that happen right now. As far as I know, those with the know-how don't have the time, and those with the time don't have the know-how. So unless I'm wrong about that, we're outta luck. For now, at least.

That said, we definitely have such a standard written down somewhere. This comes at a great time since we're actually writing style guidelines for the wiki right now. However the guidelines are intended as recommendations and not definite rules, so the numbering standard, like every other style rule, wouldn't be – shouldn't be – strictly enforced. I'm going to get on my soapbox for a second and say that editing Zelda Wiki should to be a leisurely activity and I feel we risk turning away potential contributors by being too constraining... But that's not an issue if ever we do have a bot to do it.

Personally I prefer rule (b) numbers zero to nine spelled out. I feel it's closer to what's on the wiki at the moment. And there would obviously have to be some exceptions where digits are kept, like infoboxes and tables like these. — Hylian King ^[*] 00:41, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

The postman's mask

I've noticed something about the postman's mask. It looks like M. Bison's hat from street fighter. Any ideas about the reference? Template:Nosig

Converting TP:HD High Res PSD Art to RGB

Herro my Zelda people! I was browsing the Nintendo UK Assets Library today and noticed gobs of beautiful High Res Twilight Princess art we don't have on this site (they even have a giant Earth Worm for the Bait article. It's a treasure trove) (Second parenthetical statement! There's also nice art of Ganondorf with his sword. I must has it). HOWEVER the art is in PSD format, which I would normally just open in GIMP and export to png, but apparently it's in a color format that GIMP doesn't read. So the solution I found online is to actually open the images in Photoshop, convert the color coding to RGB, and then you can open them in GIMP or whatever. But I don't have Photoshop.

SO the question is: Does anyone have Photoshop so they can do this? —Embyr 75 ^--Talk-- 18:51, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm actually working on those images right now on PS, but sadly, we have to use the jpg ones released on other sites as we don't have access to the assets library as of now.
