The Mysterious Woods, also known as the Mysterious Forest, is a forest from Link's Awakening. It is located north of Mabe Village, south of Goponga Swamp, and west of Koholint Prairie. It is one of the first places Link visits in his quest to wake the Wind Fish. In the woods, Link can find the Sleepy Mushroom which can be exchanged for Magic Powder.
Also found here is the Tail Key which opens the door to Tail Cave, the island's first dungeon. The path to the key is blocked by a racoon, who casts a curse on Link if he tries to pass. This curse only sends him to another part of the forest. The racoon is actually Tarin, who ate an unusual mushroom. Sprinkling Magic Powder on him changes him back and allows passage through the woods.
Notable residents of the Mysterious Woods include a Great Fairy and an underground Mad Batter that curses Link with the ability to hold more magic. Foes include Moblins and Zol.
